Rebuilding soil

Healthy soil sits at the heart of everything we do.

Allium specialises in transforming non-source segregated organic wastes into low-carbon soil conditioners for agriculture, and soil substitutes that support land restoration, biodiversity and habitat creation schemes.

Our approach is built on efficient operations, low-impact processes, and delivering lasting environmental benefit.

Waste Streams

Non-Source segregated organics

We accept mixed source organics from household waste, municipal solid waste fines, digestates and biosolids from industry, moving these materials through our bespoke treatment systems to produce composts and soil substitutes.

By recovering and recycling this organic content, we divert valuable material away from landfill and return it to productive use.

There are an estimated 9.5 million tonnes of non-source segregated organic wastes produced in the UK each year, much of which is still sent to landfill. Recycling the organic component of household waste can deliver measurable carbon benefits when compared with landfill disposal or incineration, while aligning with the principles of the government’s waste hierarchy.

Waste Streams

Source segregated organics

We accept source segregated wastes, green waste and food waste that we process into certified composts through open windrow and in vessel composting systems.

Products we make

Our Products

Certified composts

PAS100 compost produced from green waste.

Two grades are produced for different end uses:

  • 10mm – use in horticulture, turf growing, and domestic applications
  • 40mm – used in agriculture as a soil conditioner, valued for its organic content, moisture retention, and nutrient properties (NPK – nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium)

Non-Certified soil

conditioners

Allium holds a rare regulatory licence in the UK permitting the manufacture of soil conditioner from non-source segregated organic waste.

Called Aligrow, this is our low-carbon conditioner used by agricultural operators seeking to reduce reliance on chemical-based fertilisers.

Once produced, Aligrow is matched to the needs of agricultural land and crops through soil testing and the expertise of our in-house FACTS-qualified advisors. Soil indices and deficiencies are assessed to ensure the product is applied appropriately and delivers real benefit on the ground.

Our Products

Soil Substitutes

Blends of non-certified composts and other depleted soils, designed for land restoration and improvement schemes.

These products are typically used to restore blighted land, including former landfill sites, collieries, and post-industrial landscapes.

Our
Processes

Our processes

In-Vessel

Composting

Non-source segregated wastes are processed through a recognised time-and-temperature controlled system compliant with Animal By-Product regulations.

Material is processed in batches through three key stages: Sanitisation, Stabilisation and Maturation.

The full cycle typically spans approximately 12 weeks. Every batch is electronically tracked, providing full duty-of-care traceability from source material to finished product.

Our Processes

Open Windrow

Composting

Source-segregated green wastes are processed through our open windrow composting facility.

A controlled batch process ensures required time and temperature conditions are achieved, with a minimum processing period of eight weeks to produce PAS100-certified compost.
