Allium produces efficient energy by recovering value from materials that can’t be composted, and managing emissions from former landfill sites.
While much attention is given to intermittent renewable technologies such as wind and solar, reliable generation remains essential to support ongoing energy demand. Allium’s energy production provides a consistent, low-impact source of heat and power, with fuel derived and utilised locally.

Combined Heat & Power (CHP)
Allium operates a small-scale energy recovery facility designed to generate heat and power from contamination removed during the composting process. The facility generates approximately 5.5MW of heat and 1.2MW of electricity, operating at over 80% thermal efficiency.
Heat produced by the plant supports site operations, including drying processes, with surplus heat exported to neighbouring industrial users to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Electricity is used on site, distributed locally via private networks, with remaining capacity supplied to the grid.

Landfill Gas
As part of Allium’s land restoration activities, we also manage the environmental effects associated with former landfill sites, including methane generation.
Captured landfill gas is used to generate low-carbon power for private users and grid supply. Operating a fleet of landfill gas engines, Allium specialises in the management of late-life gas fields, where production levels are typically too low for large-scale operators to manage efficiently.
Our low-cost, remote and efficient generation model allows continued energy recovery from these assets for many years.

Peaking Plant
Complementing our low carbon generation, Allium operates a 1.6MW gas peaking plant providing fast-response, flexible power that keeps the grid stable and supports the transition to a low-carbon energy mix.
